Risk more than is required. Learn more than is normal. Be strong. Show courage. Breathe. Excel. Love. Lead. Speak your truth. Live your values. Laugh. Cry. Innovate. Simplify. Adore mastery. Release mediocrity. Aim for genius. Stay humble. Be kinder than expected. Deliver more than is needed. Exude passion. Shatter your limits. Transcend your fears. Inspire others by your bigness. Dream big but start small. Act now. Don’t stop. Change the world.

Bring your Visions into Reality

Vision Cards are deeply satisfying art that anyone can do. It’s a process of finding images that speak to you, moving fragments of cut magazine images around, fitting them together in a surprising new way and gluing them down on a card; then using the cards to create the life you envision.

2017 Classes

As 2016 comes to a close I am bursting with love and gratitude. I was able to paint more than ever before this year. Slowing down, older and wiser, finally . . I think it’s harder for us folks with unlimited energy.

My word for the new year . . . balance . . . family, friends, studio time . . . stretching, prayer.

Hope you have a wonderful 2017! Here are my offerings.

Winter Landscape on Rice Paper: Abstracted Realism (ONE DAY) January 5, 9 AM- 4 PM, Register Here

In this one-day workshop learn to create beautiful winter landscapes in watercolor on rice paper. The crinkles in the rice paper add lovely abstract shapes, which work very well depicting foliage and cause them to resemble batiks. The class will briefly go over color mixing and composition before the morning demonstration. There will be individual assistance as students begin their painting. Students will mount their rice paper and layer colors creating a beautiful landscape

Saturated Wet Watercolor: Flowers or Koi Fish, Two Day, Sat & Sun, Feb. 18 & 19,

Register Here

Students will experience an exciting way to paint in watercolor as they begin loosely painting the negative background, thinking only in terms of warm and cool, light and dark. Students will then slowly refine painting by both lifting and adding paint. This method is perfect for Koi Fish and flowers as they have soft edges. The saturated wet paper allows easy lifting, gives soft edges, and maintains a unified background. This two-day workshop will give students a real sense of this method, as timing is extremely important. The class will begin with a loose abstract painting and then lift paint from the damp surface to create the movement and flow.

Students will add details like scales at the very end. The results are stunning with rich, vibrant colors. Create beautiful paintings that have a few tight details surrounded by loose, painterly color.

Paint Your Own Pet Workshop, Weds Dec 14, 9 AM-4 PM, Scottsdale Artists’ School

my demo

This workshop was so much fun! Unfortunately a few folks had left before I snapped this group shot. Everyone had beautiful results and learned a few things about painting pets and staying inspired!

My demo was this very sweet golden doodle and it’s not quite done but wanted to share it with you.

Goin to the Dogs

Elwood
My life is currently focused on our furry four legged friends. I’m still painting some birds and a few cats but mostly I’m all about capturing the personality of some sweet puppies. I think they are the most loyal companions around and I’m so enjoying getting to know them more.

I have a couple animal events coming up. First it’s Furry Friends Fine Art Festival, a family art show centered around animals at Shemer Art Center, 5005 E Camelback, Saturday, September 17, 8am-4pm.

Then I have a one-day workshop on how to paint your pet at Scottsdale Artists’ School, 3730 N Marshall Way,Scottsdale, 480-990-1433.  December 14

Join me for a weekend retreat tapping in to The Artist Within!

“Adventure calls. Blaze a new trail. Cross a continent. Dare to discover. Escape the routine. Find a fresh perspective. Go slow. Gaze absentmindedly. Savor every moment. Have some fun! Invest now in future memories. Keep a journal. Leave prejudice and narrow mindedness behind. Make for the horizon and meet new people.Navigate the unknown. Observe, and open your mind. Pursue a road less traveled. Quest for truth. Rely on yourself. Sail away from the safe harbor. Take a risk. Unleash your curiosity. Venture further. Why wait? Expect the unexpected. Say Yes to adventure….journey with Zeal!

New Year, Fresh Start!

I always love this time right before the new year, a time to review what worked and what didn’t in the past year and make a fresh, clean start. Time to figure out classes to teach, retreats to lead, and workshops to take. Which competitions are worth entering, where would I really love to show? Where can I actually show? Who might wish to buy my art, who would love to host a paint party or have a team building event? How can I spend most of my time doing what I love(painting and inspiring others to create), make a living, and still have time for family? How can I best give back to my community while continuing to grow as an artist? Am I being the best human I can be?

What helps me and what hurts me? Who lifts me up and supports me, and who always lets me down? What do I need more of, less of?  What is my number one goal, and what are the small steps I can take to make it happen? I’m sure many of you, like me, enjoy this sacred time of incredible possibilities.

Good luck and Happy New Year!       my website
