    Simplify the Landscape

    Oak creek in Sedona

Join me for a relaxing and fun, expressive weekend. I will lead you through some guided exercises that engage all your senses to enhance your memory and enrich your experience!

Friday, November 22 we meet for happy hour at Javelina Cantina where we will enjoy delicious food and ambiance on their patio. Afterwards we’ll stroll it off a bit outside checking out the incredible views and set our intentions. I’ll pass out your art kits and we’ll do a fun exercise to jump start our creativity.

Saturday morning At 9 AM we will meet and head to Red Rock Crossing stopping by Safeway for our picnic lunch. We meet in the grassy area at 10 AM for our morning guided meditation and gentle stretching. Once settled at the park I will begin with a painting demonstration. We will enjoy our picnic lunch under the huge sycamore trees and then paint the afternoon away at this most photographed place of the Southwest listening to the rushing water and each others stories. Afterwards, we will gather at Rancho Sedona RV Park for a delicious happy hour.

Dinner is optional and will be at Hillstone. Everything will be fresh, organic, and delicious. We deserve the best! After dinner we will  look at our paintings and sketches from the day.

Sunday we will get box lunches from Wildflower Cafe which will be delivered to us. We will head to West Fork that is close by and absolutely gorgeous. Wear your comfortable shoes because we will be walking 1/2 mile but it is flat and easy. There are so many beautiful scenes to paint so I will talk about how to decide and give individual assistance. The photos above are from West Fork. We will soak up the surrounding beauty and paint all morning. Then after lunch you can go your own way and shop or stay with me and keep creating. You are sure to return home refreshed and renewed.

This retreat is limited to 10 people and you can register here by clicking retreat page.

    Saturated Wet Watercolor   April 15

This method is perfect for koi fish and flowers as they have soft edges. The saturated wet paper allows easy lifting, gives soft edges, and maintains a unified background. Students will focus on using a variety of values and winning design principles to create a compelling composition. This one-day workshop will give you a real sense of this method as timing is extremely important. The results are stunning with rich, vibrant colors.

    PAPA Workshop

    lees ferry

What an amazing experience I just had with Plein Air Painters of America through Scottsdale Artists’ School. It consisted of a one day lecture followed by 4 days in the field with four PAPA instructors at McDowell Mountain Regional Park and then 3 days of painting in the Vermillion Cliffs with other Plein air painters.

I can’t explain the pure joy I feel when painting outdoors in stunning places with a tribe of like-minded souls, definitely my happy place.

We just have about 2 hours painting Plein air before the light changes dramatically so most of us try to capture the colors and light leaving the details working small and quickly. It’s exhilarating!

I’m polishing these up with others and will be offering them at my spring events. Hope to see you!
